P R E T T Y B A B Y

You know when you watch a live performance and you get a surge of emotion as if your mind is telling you this is life-changing?
...yeah.

It seems obvious to say but damn, Deborah Harry has "something" - and I want it.

I never really understood the 'punk' part of the description of Blondie. But on stage Harry has that perfect nonchalance - plus a charisma and that coolness that you cannot fake. Her voice drips with it too.
I tend to figure out whether I love a musician/band by their live performances. Whether they make *sense* to me. Whether it makes the blood in my veins run a little bit faster. Kind of off topic but relevant: there was a little band playing today for the group of old people (forgotten the official name but whatever) - it was just three men with guitars, a harmonica, a trumpet/violin and their voices. I couldn't help to be drawn to them, simply because they sounded so effortlessly good, and I didn't want to leave the room. The thought crossed my mind that if that is what three men can make me feel, how the hell is Bruce Springsteen going to make me feel. I suppose it is what makes me feel the most alive. I am itching, dying, to be involved too. I want to join in.
But anyway, I digress. Blondie. Debbie Harry. It helps that she looks like a million dollars without even trying. I read that she was a waitress, a go-go dancer and a Playboy bunny - which all totally makes sense when you think about it. She is kind of the girl next door, while also having the kind of moves that none of us will have and a definite sex appeal. Anyway, I really really dig her style. It is totally and completely Debbie Harry. Desperately wish I could pull it off.

Recently when I've felt tired or dull or downtrodden I turn it into channeling Debbie's cool and steely surface (glad I am still blonde). She doesn't need anyone's approval.
The MUSIC though. The music. Maybe that is for a whole other post because I haven't quite got to the centre of all that yet. I can definitely feel myself in the first heady phase of intense love and passion. Parallel Lines has been on repeat repeat repeat. Favourites: Pretty Baby, 11:59 and Heart of Glass duh.
